Greetings Fellow Adventurers

Welcome to my little corner of the internet! I’m Katie, the K behind the K Bass Illustration logo you may have seen hanging around at all your favourite events. I am an illustrator with a passion for creating unique, eye-catching artwork, whether it’s for book covers, hosting workshops, or even doodling amusing thoughts. Like these feline inspired wooden pins. Many of which were inspired by my Cat, Mika! Look at him wiggling his butt in the air trying to catch a butterfly. So cute!

Moving on from the furbaby, I’m here to splash some additional creativity into the projects you have in mind. I aim to make the process as easy as possible by listening to your needs, and tailoring my creative approach to suit your project.

How Did I Get Into Illustration?

I’ve always had a pencil in hand, doodling on whatever scrap of paper I could find (or the walls, much to my parent’s dismay as a child). I was fortunate enough to get into the Cambridge School of Art when it came around to choosing which university to study at.

During university, I took on smaller sketch commissions to help build up my confidence, and portfolio as well as top up my student loan. I also wrote and illustrated my first two graphic novels at university, for my course work. After university, I took a break from drawing and focussed heavily on acrylic paintings to master colour theory, and nail down lighting maps. I will discuss this at a later time- it’s a large topic on its own!

Around two years after graduating, I started taking my illustration career seriously by attending various events to network with authors, fellow illustrators, and stall holders. Everyone I spoke to taught me so much. I couldn’t be more grateful for their input, the people I’ve had the chance to speak with over the last 10 years have catapulted my work to where it is now.

What I Do Now…

Book Cover Design

There’s something magical about a book cover that captures the true essence of a story. A good cover can draw people in, hint at the adventures inside, and leave a lasting impression. My job? To help authors create that meaningful first impression. I work closely with you to understand your story, the lessons you want your readers to take away, your characters, and the mood you want to set. Then, I translate all that into a design that’s as unique as your book. And, if it’s a series of books you want drawn up- you’ll get a discounted rate, as well as covers that look branded consistently so your readers know that series is yours.

Yes, I make pretty illustrated book covers, but they are enticing your readers to open the books… Maybe I should scratch that and say I make powerful book covers.

Live Sketching

Got an event coming up?

Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or a casual gathering, live sketching highlights the life and soul of your guests in illustrated form. It’s fun to watch and even better when they get to take home a piece of art made just for them!

I love working in the moment, capturing the energy and personality of people as they enjoy the event. It’s a great way to create memories, and the best part? Every sketch is one-of-a-kind.

Workshops and Art Parties

Art parties are my version of letting loose with a paintbrush in hand, and they’re perfect for all ages! Whether you’re planning a kid’s birthday bash, a hen party, or just want a reason to get your friends together for a creative evening, I will bring everything you need so you don’t need to rush around all of the art shops nearby.

I’ll guide everyone through the processes, and it’s all about having fun and being expressive. You’ll be surprised by what you can create when you’re in a relaxed, chilled-out environment. By the end of it, you’ll have a masterpiece to take home and some unforgettable memories!

I can work with children of all ages. I have a clean DBS check.

Why Work With Me?

I’m all about working closely with you to make sure we’re creating something special. I’m a big believer in the idea that art should feel personal and reflect the unique story or event it’s tied to. That’s why I don’t just offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, I take time to get to know you, your project, and your vibe, then final product feels like you.

I also know how important it is to keep things stress-free, which is why I keep my process simple and transparent. From our first conversation to the final brushstroke (or digital touch!), you’ll know exactly what to expect, and we’ll work together every step of the way.

Let’s Go On This Adventure Together!

So, whether you’re an author looking for that perfect book cover, an event planner wanting to add something unique, or someone just looking to have a good time with art, I’d love to chat. Let’s figure out how we can bring your vision to life in the most fun, laid-back way possible.

Feel free to browse around my site to see some of my past work, or drop me a message if you want to talk ideas—I’m always up for a creative chat!

Thanks for stopping by, and I can’t wait to work together!
